Upcycled Custom Pillow Case from T-Shirt
Creator: Keith Foster

I used a Large T-shirt from the last USC football game I attended. I wanted to make a small pillow to use at USC tailgate parties and as a headrest or lower back rest when I'm riding home from late-night games. The pillow I made is 9 by 13 inches in size.

Six Simple Steps

Step 1: Figure out how large your T-Shirt Pillow case needs to be. Each T-Shirt has its own unique features you might want to highlight on your pillow, or maybe you just want to cover up an old pillow to make it look better.

Step 2: Measure and cut around the design of the T-Shirt. Once you know the size, add an extra half-inch to each side for sewing seams.

Step 3: Turn the front and back pieces of the pillow inside out so the right sides are together. Use pins to hold them in place while you sew.

Step 4: Sew around the edges you cut, leaving the bottom edge or hemmed edge of the T-shirt open for stuffing.

Step 5: Fill the pillow with stuffing until it's as full as you want it to be, then turn it right side out.

Step 6: Sew the bottom closed with a serger sewing machine. Because we left the hemmed edge at the bottom, you can just sew across it about a quarter-inch from the edge on the right side of the fabric.

This T-shirt pillow project is a simple sewing task that gives your product and memories an extended life.
